Serving the regions

Published on Updated on

The rail network criss-crosses the French landscape, linking the major metropolises to the most isolated living areas. Every time a line serves a region, it contributes to its development.

We support regional development

By strengthening our collaboration with the regions, we aim to contribute even more effectively to their economic dynamism.

Facilitating mobility management

As a key partner for the Regions and the mobility organising authorities (AOM), we are committed to helping them improve services within their area. We are positioning ourselves as a facilitator of mobility management, in particular with regard to the transfer of management of the region's comprehensive coverage lines, the introduction of metropolitan regional express services and the opening up of the regulated passenger market.

Our method: dialogue

Our performance contracts

I want us to step up our work with regional players so that the train and SNCF Réseau's mark are seen as an asset by every region.

Improving the rail network throughout France

Every year, we inaugurate numerous improvements across the national rail network. Works to modernise signalling, reinforce engineering structures, regenerate track components or catenaries, develop new services, etc. All these operations contribute to running more trains, in better conditions, and thus developing the quality of service in the regions served.

By creating jobs in the regions

The volume and scope of our production make us a key player in the economic and social development of regions. We create thousands of direct and indirect jobs by deploying our teams in the field. We work in partnership with over 11,000 French companies (industrial subcontractors, materials suppliers, engineering companies, etc.). In this way, we are supporting more than 108,000 jobs, which are by their very nature tied to a region, and which will never be relocated outside our borders!

Our contribution to the economy of regions

  • +€6bn

    of purchases from French companies

  • €1m

invested by SNCF Réseau, is €800,000 which will go to the regions

  • +108,000

    jobs supported throughout France

By making a commitment to society

We have adopted a social and solidarity economy (SSE) approach. In 2024, €36m of solidarity purchases (direct or via an integration clause) were made from the disability sector, integration through economic activity structures or other SSE structures. We also work with the Chantier école network to enable young people with no vocational qualifications to take part in our "green projects".

By reducing our environmental footprint

It's a fact that our industrial activity has an impact on the environment and on the ecosystems through which our tracks cross. We are taking action in a number of areas to reduce our ecological footprint in the regions:

  • biodiversity: we work with local associations to preserve species and restore ecological continuity on railway rights of way.
  • eco-design: this approach enables us to improve the environmental performance of our products, systems and projects at every stage in their life cycle.
  • the circular economy: we recycle the vast amount of materials from railways, by reusing, recycling or recovering energy from them.
