Occitanie

Towards an ever more efficient network

In Occitanie, our mission is to increase the attractiveness of the rail network in order to meet the needs of our customers: railway undertakings, freight and passengers, and transport organising authorities. To do this, we are regenerating the lines providing comprehensive coverage of the region, modernising key routes and developing major mobility projects.

Serving customers and the regions

By its very nature, our business is firmly rooted in the areas crossed by the rail network. In Occitanie, as throughout France, we work on a daily basis with many local players to maintain, modernise, develop and operate the regional network.

The network in the region

The network in Occitanie comprises 2,600 km of lines, including 1,400 km of French lines providing comprehensive coverage for passenger and freight transportation and 1,200 km of core network lines.
In addition, there are 451 km of unused lines, some of which have been converted into greenways. With over 24% of liO trains, the region needs to provide the impetus for major rail projects: speeding up the commissioning of 2 high-speed lines, 2 metropolitan regional express services, supporting the international and transit development of freight traffic and continuing the ambitious programme of the Rail Plan protocol.

Finally, the Occitanie region includes the European corridor and the cross-border link with Spain, with strong growth in the Avignon-Perpignan market.

Our network is evolving

In response to major social and environmental challenges, our network is set to evolve. €15 billion of investments, including €483 million in 2023, that's the amount of projects under SNCF Réseau Occitanie's management for the next decade.
We are already working alongside public authorities on the project for two high-speed lines - Montpellier-Perpignan and Bordeaux-Toulouse/Bordeaux-Dax - and the Toulouse metropolitan express service. The objective? To offer optimised services and new alternatives in terms of sustainable mobility. We also carry out modernisation works on the existing network. The creation of the Agence Plan Rail (Rail Plan Agency) in 2021 for everyday trains, including the reopening of 5 lines (Montréjeau-Luchon, Alès-Bessèges, the Rive Droite du Rhône line in the Gard, Limoux-Quillan, Rodez-Séverac) thanks to €800 million in funding over 10 years from the Occitanie Region. All these projects are carried out in conjunction with stakeholders, in a spirit of openness and dialogue.

Occitanie Rail Plan

€800 million invested between 2020 and 2030: that's the amount the Occitanie Region is devoting to the Rail Plan, which aims to contribute to the development of the regional rail network. The State will provide additional support under terms defined in a protocol signed with the Region.

Against taking risks at level crossings

School-based interventions

Even today, 20% of French people claim to have crossed a level crossing without observing the signalling. Prevention is therefore a fundamental part of the safety policy pursued by SNCF Réseau Occitanie, which organises special prevention events.

SNCF Réseau Occitanie and its partners regularly run prevention campaigns aimed at reminding specific audiences of safety rules and good behaviour.

Controlling vegetation

As manager and operator of the rail network, SNCF Réseau Occitanie is responsible for maintaining vegetation on railway rights of way. Controlling vegetation on and around railway lines is essential to ensure the reliability of rail services while guaranteeing the safety of local residents, passengers and SNCF agents in the face of the risks involved. In 2023, €14 million was invested in vegetation maintenance in Occitanie.
