Hauts-de-France

For sustainable mobility integrated into the region

Our mission is to run as many trains as possible, safely and regularly, to meet the needs of our customers, both passenger and goods transportation companies. To achieve this, we are preparing for the mobility of the future by maintaining and modernising the network.

The network in the region

Although the region covers less than 6% of the surface area of mainland France, its rail network represents 10% of the national rail network. With 363 stations and stops, the railways are a powerful tool for irrigating the region.

This coverage of the region contributes to the attractiveness of rail transport: the 1,250 passenger trains that run on the network every day account for 14% of national passenger traffic. On the freight side, the presence of major seaports and the region's proximity to Northern Europe explain the high volume of goods transportation: 250 freight trains per day, or 20% of national goods traffic.

The main projects in progress

To maintain and develop our network, we are carrying out a wide-ranging programme of works. We are taking care to minimise the impact of the projects underway on passengers, local residents and freight companies. Once completed, these operations will offer network users a better quality of service, particularly in terms of punctuality and regularity.

Projects on the regional network

We are preparing for the mobility of the future: with our financial partners, the State and the Region, we are studying projects for passengers (the Lille metropolitan regional express service, Lille-Sambre-Avesnois, Roissy-Picardy), and for goods transportation (the Calais motherway). SNCF Réseau is also working with the Region and the State on projects to renew the region's lines providing comprehensive coverage: Douai-Cambrai, Laon-Hirson. Finally, we carry out rail works as part of the development of road(Valenciennes northern bypass and RN2) and river (Seine Nord Europe Canal) projects.

Serving customers and the regions

By its very nature, our business is firmly rooted in the areas crossed by the rail network. In Hauts-de-France, as in the rest of France, we work on a daily basis with many local players to maintain, modernise, develop and operate the regional network.
