Major development projects

Published on Updated on

Eole, CDG Express, NExTEO, LGV+ Paris–Lyon, the new Provence–Côte d’Azur line… Sound familiar? These are just some of the major projects led by SNCF Réseau. They all share a common goal: developing new rail infrastructure to expand sustainable mobility across France.

A large-scale transformation

The major projects led by SNCF Réseau are significantly transforming the rail landscape. What sets them apart from other works is their national scale, the technological breakthroughs they introduce, and the technical challenge they represent for our teams, who are well-versed in managing complex projects.

A major step towards sustainable mobility

Major development projects help enhance the rail mobility offering: They introduce new services in different regions, increase frequency and reliability, and strengthen the overall performance of the network. All of these are key drivers in meeting new mobility needs and accelerating the decarbonisation of transport.

The expected performance improvements are very real: a train every 120 seconds with NExTEO, 15% of road traffic shifted to rail between Charles de Gaulle and Paris with CDG Express, up to 16 trains per hour in each direction between Paris and Lyon with LGV+… and many more major developments that signal the dawn of rail’s third revolution!

Strength in numbers

Did you know?

Every major project is the result of a collective effort involving the leading players in the French rail industry:

  • SNCF Réseau acts as both project owner and project manager.
  • A dedicated team is assigned to each major project, overseeing every phase from initial studies to commissioning.
  • Each team brings together a wide range of experts, from track and catenary specialists to signalling, telecoms and civil engineering professionals.
  • Our industrial partners play a crucial role, contributing their resources and expertise alongside our own.
  • The entire process is coordinated by our Major Projects Division.

Our professions evolve with the network!

With the cutting-edge technologies and systems they introduce, major projects challenge us to rethink our structures and procedures. We support these transformations by adapting operating methods, updating technical standards and providing continuous training to our teams. Change management is therefore a core part of our mission whenever we deliver a major project.
